The championship is slated to commence on August 30, with Pakistan squaring off against Nepal in Multan.

Subsequently, Lahore will host three fixtures, including a probable Pakistan Super 4 encounter on September 6. The remaining matches are scheduled in Sri Lanka, with Kandy hosting three and Colombo staging six, including the tournament’s finale on September 17.

The much-anticipated India-Pakistan round-robin encounter is set for September 2 in Kandy, with a potential rematch in the Super 4 stage earmarked for September 10 in Colombo.

The tournament’s commercial viability largely depends on the India-Pakistan face-off, with the format designed to facilitate at least two matches between the arch-rivals.

Both teams are grouped with Associate member Nepal, and irrespective of their group-stage performance, Pakistan will retain its A1 position, while India will be A2, in accordance with India’s preference for a neutral venue.

The PCB advocated for a hybrid hosting model, thereby retaining four matches within Pakistan. However, the board’s decision has sparked debate within Pakistani cricket circles.

Since the BCCI clarified last October that it would not participate in matches held in Pakistan, the PCB has undergone three administrative changes, each proposing a slightly different compromise.

The Asia Cup has a history of being influenced by India-Pakistan relations. Of the 15 editions since its inception in 1984, only once has each country hosted the tournament. The 2008 edition marked the last occasion the Indian cricket team played in Pakistan.

BCCI Secretary and Asian Cricket Council President Jay Shah, in a recent tweet, described the Asia Cup as “a symbol of unity and togetherness that binds diverse nations.”

From a sporting perspective, the tournament serves as a crucial preparatory stage for the upcoming World Cup, which kicks off in India on October 5. (See also: Asia Cup Winners List)
