Steven Smith, the man with the golden bat, has climbed four spots to sit pretty at No. 2 among Test batters.
This leap comes after his stellar performance in the second Ashes Test against England at Lord’s, where he scored a cool 110 and 34, earning him the Player-of-the-Match title.
With Australia winning the match by 43 runs and leading the series 2-0, Smith’s performance has certainly made a mark.
Meanwhile, Joe Root has slipped four spots down to the fifth position. But don’t feel too bad for him, because guess who’s taken the top spot?
It’s Kane Williamson, who, interestingly, hasn’t played Test cricket since March.
Following Williamson and Smith, we have Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head, making the top four a real treat for cricket lovers.
On the bowlers’ front, Pat Cummins is making some serious moves, gaining two spots to rank second, just behind R Ashwin.
Cummins has bagged eight wickets in the Ashes so far, with his 4 for 63 in the second innings at Edgbaston and 3 for 69 at Lord’s proving crucial for Australia.
James Anderson, who managed just three wickets across 77 overs in the two Tests against Australia, has slipped to fourth place.
But it’s not all gloom and doom for England. Despite trailing in the Ashes, both Root and Ben Stokes have climbed the ranks among allrounders.

Stokes’ aggressive 155 at Lord’s and three wickets across two Ashes Tests have catapulted him to No. 4, while Root’s unbeaten 118 at Edgbaston and 2 for 19 at Lord’s have landed him at No. 7.
So, there you have it! The ICC rankings are as unpredictable as the game itself, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the Ashes has in store. Stay tuned, cricket fans.
